| 2003 |
July 10 Premier Minister Yu Si-Kun announced to establish the National Kaohsiung Performing Arts Center (further named Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts) at Wei-Wu-Ying. |

| 2004 |
February 18 Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts was placed under the New Ten Major Construction Projects by the Executive Yuan with NT$ 8 billion in construction budget, planning to set up a Concert Hall (2300 seats), a Lyric Theater (2000 seats), a Play House (800~1000 seats), an Experimental Theater (200~500 seats) and other service facilities. |

| 2005 |
November 24 Executive Yuan ratified for the first time “Project for Planning and Construction of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts”, with NT$8.36 billion in project budget, among them NT$6.5 billion would be for the construction, and the center was scheduled to be completed in 2009. |

| 2006 |
March 15 Preparatory Office of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts was established.
September 28 The two-stage international competition for contractual bids “Planning, Design and Construction Supervision for the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts” was announced officially to the public online.
November 15 Sinotech Engineering Consultants, Ltd. won the bids “Commissioning and Operation for the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts”.
December 7-8 A total of 44 well-known architectural teams submitted proposal for this international contest and six finalists were selected.
December 11 Council for Cultural Affairs (CCA) ratified the “Southern Performing Arts Development Project”, to help train and nurture outstanding troupes, young and creative talents as well as cultivate audiences, reinforcing the vitality of southern Taiwanese culture.

| 2007 |
March 22-23 Conclusion of the 2nd stage international contest, the first prize was awarded jointly to Francine Houben of the Dutch firm Mecanoo Architecten B.V. and to Taiwan’s Archasia Design Group.
April 4 Executive Yuan approved the 2nd edition “Project for Planning and Construction of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts”, and the center was re-scheduled to be completed in 2012.
September 1 Preparatory Office of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts was officially listed to go public.
November 21 The contract for “Planning, Design and Construction Supervision for the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts” was signed by Mecanoo Architecten B.V. and Archasia Design Group. |

| 2008 |
January 18-19 Mecanoo Architecten B.V. and Archasia Design Group progressed jointly the planning explanation briefing for the project of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts; the draft drawings of the project should be finished within 180 days.
June 12 The consultative seminar “Operation Model of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts” took place; the administrative corporation jointly with the National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center was considered as the appropriate model for the future center.
July 30 The Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts was re-planned to set up a Lyric Theater (2200 seats), a Concert Hall (2000 seats), a Play House (1250~1350 seats), and a Recital Hall (450~600 seats). The original experimental theater would be located at the old barracks of the Wei-Wu-Ying Metropolitan Park.
September 20 The “Starry Night Concert – Wei-Wu-Ying•Hot•Classical" was held by Preparatory Office in cooperation with TaiwanMobile and National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), nearly 20,000 audiences poured into Wei-Wu-Ying.
November 15 The "Starry Night Concert – Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra dating with Wei-Wu-Ying" took place, relaying simultaneously the concert in Taipei’s National Concert Hall to Wei-Wu-Ying by satellite.
November 16 The architectural team sent the draft drawings and confirmed the future center would include: the Lyric Theater (2260 seats), the Concert Hall (2000 seats), the Play House (1254 seats), and the Recital Hall (470 seats).
December 8 The first tender of the construction project would be the building structure (including foundations) was confirmed.
December 23 The design project was approved, and the detailed design for the construction of the first tender should be completed within 150 days.

| 2009 |
January 1 The “Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert 2009” was relayed by satellite to Wei-Wu-Ying, greeting the arrival of the New Year with the whole world.
May 22 The detailed design for the construction of the first tender was completed.
June 4-5 The review meeting “Construction design drawings, budget report and tender documentation of the first tender for the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts” took place.
July 3 Executive Yuan ratified the 3rd edition “Project for Planning and Construction of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts”. Due to the inflation, the project budget was adjusted as NT$ 9.96 billion, among them NT$8.2 billion would be for the construction, and the finished deadline was prolonged until 2013.
